History

Dan-Bunkering has been pioneer in the bunker trade and has developed into one of the primary, global and powerful expanding players.

But let us start with the beginning: The history of Dan-Bunkering can be traced all the way back to 1876 when Julius Mortensen Shipping was established in Fredericia, Denmark. Nearly 100 years later – in 1974 – Julius Mortensen Shipping bought the local shipping company of H. Sommer in Middelfart, and changed the company name to H. Sommers Eftf. Shipping ApS.

The company's business area was expanded from shipping alone to include bunker trading of fuel and oil products.

Initially the bunker trade was based locally, but by the late 1970’s activities had expanded heavily to include international bunkering services.

By 1981 the bunker activities were separated into an independent company – Dan-Bunkering ApS. The shipping activities remained within the company H. Sommers Eftf.

Shipping ApS, which in connection with the separation of the bunkering activities changed its name to Middelfart Shipping ApS – now a part of the company Shipping.dk. In 1984 the company was converted to limited company and the name changed to A/S Dan-Bunkering Ltd.

Dan-Bunkering has thus developed from a sole trader in 1981 to employing a staff of 95 today.
